have a section of track with a dogbone on each end, everything has work super for a couple of years, today one of the switches started acting strange. When the front of the engine passed thru the switch, the switch would change direction causing the engine to de-rail. (Front going straight and the rear turning). It is a remote switch and the power is OK. This same engine has been on the this section a long time.  I changed engines and all seemed OK but then WAM derail.

Can I convert this switch to a manual by disconnecting the remote?

All comments appreciated. Brent

Track power or separate power for the switch?

Can you physically get close to view the engine to observe the action and possibly identify a physical change? Switch flexing, pilot truck wheels, something hanging, etc.. Look for something metallic that fell  onto the track.

yes, it will still have non-derail by removing the remote. I was going to suggest that you disconnect the remote lever unit anyway to rule out a problem with it.

That's about all that I can think of without removing the switch for bench testing.

Thanks for the comments, yesterday I removed the switch, cleaned and reinstalled it, still a problem.

After reading your comments. I ran a magnet and lightly rubbed a wire brush thru the switch and adjoining track, ran the magnet again, and then used a small brush to sweep away any metal/stuff that may have been in/on the switch

Powered the track and the engine is running great thru the switch. To be sure all was OK; I did try another engine, so it looks like my problem for today is history.

Sometimes it’s not what you do but how you do it.

Thanks

Brent
