For starters look at using some 1 inch pvc pipe and associated fittings. Might get you close. Russ

Agree. It is possible to make some pretty compelling tanks out of various Schedule 40 bits.

I had some 13/4" plexiglass tube, PVC pipe will work too .I glued some Precision Board, foam board might work too. on the ends. I sanded them round and created two milk tanks for my Hood's Milk Factory. The pipes are from old model waste parts.
