I am having an impossible time trying to get my old 242 scout to go through my 1122 switches. The engine reverses, derails and derails cars, shorts out, whatever, it does it. Runs fine in small test oval. Any help? Ted

A video of the engine stopping would be a lot more useful to diagnose the problem than one with it working. That said, chances are the engine is losing power on the back to back switches. Try adding a center rail power feed between the switches first. If that doesn't solve things there may be an issue with the pick-up rollers on the engine, where only one roller is conducting.

Heres some video. Probably not the best but all i have. I installed another lockon and that seemed to help somewhat

The roller spacing, combined with the inferior design of the plastic type motor hollow metal roller pickups, are causing your drop-outs. Try locking the reverse unit in forward and see if you can get semi-satisfactory operation as the train coasts through the non-power areas.

Maybe add a small straight section between the two 1122s

Rob, locking out reverse helped the most. It rarely stops now. I appreciate your patience and help. TW

Another solution is to run a single wire tether back to the tender and share it's track pickups, this is my preferred solution with tenders that have rollers for a whistle.
Whistles are good! Maybe I should buy one and replace the tender I have. Couldnt be too expensive. Thx again all, for the help.
