Hello,

I have accumulated over time, amounts of O and HO scale trains that demand the both be run. I do not have the space, or desire to run them on seperate layouts. I have a way of including both, my question lies in my desire to model in O scale, the stretch of the NYC water level route that stretched between Grand Central Station and Albany NY. I was wondering what everyone's opinions on this concept were.

Thanks,

Nick

My layout is a compressed version of the lines between the northern part of the city to Croton (Harmon) that is the terminus of the electrified line where steamers and electrics take trains into and out of  the city. Lots of fun switching electrics to steam for the trip north & west ( by time table) or vice versa for trains inbound to GCT......I haven’t gotten my station yet, but it’s on my radar.....😉..........Pat

Hi Pat,

That is a really cool idea. I live less than 5 minutes from the Breakneck Tunnel that was so frequently photographed, so that is going to be important to get right. Just as yours is, mine will have to be condensed, over 100 miles of track in 60 something feet of O gauge track. As for Prototypical operations, my locomotive roster limits the ability to be electric south of Croton. My iteration of the 20th century Ltd will be pulled from grand central by steam. It is hard to find 0-41 minimum curve NYC P Motors. It is also important to add that for now this layout will be conventionally controlled ala ZW.

Use an S motor....they’ll handle O42 ....I believe.....don’t quote me on that.....my smallest curves are O81....Pat

You are right, their minimum curve is 036. They are not to expensive either, guess i'm going to have to put of the purchase of more j1e hudsons. By the way, lionel makes a version of Grand Central Station, if your looking for one. My plan is to elevate New York city slightly from the rest of the layout and tunnel trains under until the park ave. tunnel ends.
