What do people suggest for realistic looking 1:48 scale duct tape? I am building a tacky trailer park and there will be a lot of busted windows, curling trailer siding and rusted roofing plus all many of broken down and jury rigged stuff. Much of that should, for realism, be patched and held together with duct tape. I don't need my model duct tape to hold anything together - just look like it is. Right now I am figuring to match the color and sheen with paint I mix and apply in thin strips, but has anyone else every done duct tape another way?

I would think you would want it to look like it is peeling up in some spots. What if you took some masking tape, cut it in 1:48 scale strips, and paint it to match real duct tape. This way you can make some edges peel up a bit and it would look pretty realistic.
What about the cray paper they use for the 4th of July confetie? Just saw some at Micheals that might do the trick. You would have to cut into smaller strips.

Or maybe chart tape. Or a Sharpie pen. Or silver foil or paper. Awww just use bailing wire like the rest of us Trailerneighbors do.
Lee, on Corgi buses does the screw on the bottom release the outer body or do I have to drill out the rivits at the back? I want to add riders. Thanks,

Silver pinstripe tape
Why not use the real thing?
I did exactly what you are considering on a window of a broken down trailer on my layout. I took a short length of duct tape and used an exacto knife to cut a 1/16" strip (scale 3" wide) and placed it on the window using a tweezer. I then placed short perpendicular strips (approx. 1/8 - 3/16" in length) over the longer ones simulating points for reinforcement.
Looks very convincing.

Thanks. I'm going to try all these methods! I figure some will work better some places than others.
I appreciate everyone's ideas. This forum is an amazing source of greati deas.
