Replaced the 153c contactor with Azatrax MRAPR 12v DPDT 8a relay and insulated track. Works pretty well, lights come on and change as they should. There is some "chatter" with the relay. When the red light is on sometimes the green light will blink on and then back to red. I would like to eliminate that. My research makes me think I need to add something to the relay circuit? If so what and where? Limited knowledge in this area so help, advice is most welcomed.

The easiest thing to do is to start by increasing the length of your insulated track section(s) so more wheelsets are bridging the rails and keeping the relay chatter to a minimum.
You need to use a DC relay and a capacitor. DC is a better choice for signaling.
It's been explained many times.

Or do what GRJ says...

I use DC, it is a little more complicated, but only the first time.
