Would I lose performance with twisted 18 gauge wire from a distribution power block to track using dcs? My layout is 12 x 24.

Probably not, but it's also dependent somewhat on the length of your runs. I think most Forumites would recommend using the heaviest gauge wire possible, if you can. I run 14 gauge from the distribution block to a 2 gang terminal block under each track drop and then 16 gauge from the gang terminal to the track and have not experienced any issues. In addition, using too thin a wire can create safety issues.
Is there a reason you want to use 18 ga. ?
Impedance for 18ga stranded is 6.3849 Ω / 1000 ft. As long as the wire run is less than 50' you should be good for 10 amps or less.
I agree with Richie, unless you already have the 18 ga, I would suggest stepping up to the 14 ga.
Thanks guys I have an ovr abundance of 18 but I'l bite the cost and go with 14 I'l even feel more comfortable with the larger gauge.
