Besides being a lifelong train nut, I also restore old radios. I found some postcard pictures of the mid 1930's Zenith building in Chicago. I decided to scratch build a reasonable replica for the layout.

Excellent Job!!!!!
Very cool!
Keeping the "Hand Crafted" tradition too.
That is a great looking building!
Does it have a Robot Dial Console in stock to sell me? lol!
I am in agreement....VERY COOL!! It is a beautiful model and I would be proud to have one on my layout....what a great model!

Absolutely beautiful !!!!!!!!!. Milnyc I would like too see some more of your other buildings, they look very nice.
Thanks for posting,
Alex
Great work! So where did you find the radio models?

I printed pictures of the radio fronts from the net, cut them out and glued them to stained wooden blocks. The building is mostly Midwest, Plastruct and Evergreen plastics with some masonite.
WOW! I like the Art Deco style and you totally nailed it!
And by the way, that Ray's record shop is pretty neat as well

Thanks to everybody for your kind comments.
Ray's Record shop is a Lemax item from a few years ago. I added some signs to dress it up a bit.
Wow, that just screams 1930s! You really nailed it.
I tip my hat to a genuine modeler. Very, very nicely done.
And I have to go downtown Tomorrow if we don't get snowed in.
Its a 75 mile trip from wear I live. and I hate going there. I wish they made the leg closer to the western burbs I'll check things out tomorrow when I'm downtown. I will be in the area thanks. Scot
milnyc, not to sound redundent, but very cool. Great modeling of a neat building.
As for looking for the current day building, don't bother. I think the address was 676 Norht Michigan which is now the Omni Hotel. This almost looks like a building that was built for the 1933 Worlds Fair in Chicago.
A bit more history onm this building would be interesting.
Thanks again milnyc.

Great Job, Very cool. Thanks for sharing with us.
Definitely way cool!

I love it. Great job. It looks like, in the photo, that the sign lights the letters in a running sequence. That would be really sharp if there was a way to do that.
that is beautiful! my grandparents always had Zenith Tvs and radios, and so did my parents.
Fantastic job. How did you do the doors? Don
THAT is so cool!!!! Not only is the building cool, never seen it before, but your model replicates it so well!!!
Bad part....is I want to build one now!
Super job!
WONDERFUL! Do you own what appears to be 2 postcards? I collect postcards from the "Linen" era (1930s-40s), but have never seen these.
What a fabulous model! I LOVE those art deco buildings!
Very impressive model work! The curved edges on the sides of the building front must have been difficult to make. The Auburn boat tail speedster parked in front is cool too.

Excellent work!

I cheated and used the image from one of the postcards.

Agreed....can you share some details on construction????

I don't own the postcards, I found the images on the net. A good friend collects post cards also, he has never seen them in person either.
What a wonderful model! Born and raised here after WWII, but I don't have a memory of this building. Couldn't find anything about it on the net (as of yet, anyway). The two wedge shots of the prototype (both views from the northeast) show different window arrangements on the north face (differing in height of the square windows, for the most part). Interesting!
Kudos to you, milnyc!
Very nice work. Do you scratch build a lot of your buildings?
Here is my Zenith.

Actually this is only the second one I have done from the ground up.
Here is my Zenith.
Very nice 42 Zenith! Here is one that my wife rescued from a resale shop.10S160 from 1937.

That is a 1935 Auburn speedster. It is an older Hallmark ornament, all diecast and very well done. Matchbox also made one.
Fantastic craftsmanship.
I'd say you nailed it spot on! Fantastic job!
Growing up we always had Zenith, I hate not seeing it anymore. I also love the whole art deco look of the building in general.
