I’ve finally gotten my dream room built, now the fun begins of designing a layout. The first thing I want to do is a 2 line track around the ceiling. Wanted to go with 82” corners but double lining them seem to be a pain. Would a 72 inner and 82 outer work better. I’m thinking it will but wanted to ask the experts here. This is my first post on this forum so please be kind to me...haha

What size is your room? If you run large engines and scale size passenger ars, use the biggest radius for space available.
My ceiling track with crossover (max diameter 10 feet):

Yes, 72 will fit nice however you also need ti worry about inside car/loco overhang on the 82d ,and outside ovehang on the 72 to ensure space for two trains to pass there without clipping each other.
And does your track actually use the center rail dia. or outer dia. at the ties? This varies by mfg and track type.
So, 10" difference total, 5" between, I think would be ok with big curves. Check your stock for stringline overhang and outer arc overhang and see (You need to do this along the walls too. Both overhang types extend into the straights, not just curves, and check both directions as the exiting is where it goes wide into the straight
Don't forget clearance to the walls coming out of the turn, if you plan on running big stuff, you want at LEAST 3 1/2 inches from the center rail to the wall. Many articulated locomotives will have a 3+ inch overhang from the center rail outside the curve.
