I bought a 224E with a 2224T tender. Problem is it is missing the rear truck. Is there a way to tell the difference between 224E prewar and 224E postwar. I'm seeing the rear trucks are different by other auctions. I have gone to olsens library and it shows two different number but the prewar doesn't give a break down where I could see the difference between them.

So if it has the shorter pull bar it is postwar. Hmmm the one I see has the prewar tender ( says it's diecast) but it appears in the pics to be the shorter pull bar. I wonder if someone switch pullbar to make a closer connection.

Thanks anyway. The ones I have seen on line they have a different connection plate one has a piece that like folds up the flattens out.

Okay from what I can see this has the longer pull bar and it appears the bracket is the same as you are showing, so The bracket I'm seeing is probably be stated as something it may or may not be. maybe they did have two different type. It appears that it is missing the rear truck assembly but has the draw bar and bracket. ( I found he put some more pictures in at the bottom of the listing, I didn't see before. )

There is no such thing as a 224E postwar. All postwar versions will have 224 number plates. Prewar engines may have either 224E or 224 number plates.

Some postwar 224 parts still had the "E" suffix as they were identical to the prewar versions, but the engine itself was always 224.

Also, the postwar 224 came with a 2466W tender. The 2224T is a prewar tender and should have prewar trucks and couplers.

Thanks for your reply as it did clear it up some for me. It does have the 224E stamped on it. The tender I wasn't questioning as it all looked all correct to me.

I was questioning about the trucks as seen a few on ebay and places and the mounting plates also seen two different choices. I did discover there where even more pics than I realized as the seller add picks to the body of the auction also. I also notice what looks like a manual control slot as maybe this cast was used for something else before, and they cut a slot in the mold for the E-unit in the front of the engine.

What do you mean by a manual control slot? How about some photos?

When I get it in I will take a closer look but to me it looks like the slot in the cab like the 262 has, but that is tin plate and this is diecast. I think I managed to get the pic here if you can blow it up some look in the cab center back wall

224E

If you click on the picture you get a better view of it. Until I get it in this is the best I can do.

There are no switches, levers or similar inside the cab. However, there are some cast in details similar to this (disregard the caption about the stamped X):

No. 1666 Cab Interior Variation D

Okay, I'm guessing what I see since it isn't a straight on shot from the back in the picture, is the area between the doors, and his pictures are not that well lit up. I thought it seemed strange myself.
