26x26 layout- updated 2/7/14

William im always looking for help would have gotten more done this weekend but my to buddies where both busy most of the weekend.

 

Any ways another weekend has past and not enough got done. Wanted to have the middle mountain line to have all the plaster cloth done. Sadly that didn't happen. Im about 70% there. Still need to wait on the lower half till all the bridge pieces are made. Got a couple of those done this weekend, but know i have to make them with out the jig due to the second level going over the first.  So here are the pics of what got done this weekend.

Like always not as much as i like to report but it has been a while since the last one.

Looking real good! Keep going!! I like how you worked the mountain into hiding the support pole.

Took me a while to figure out how to hide it. I didn't like how it looks like a volcano. My friends are calling it Mt. Doom and I need to frodo some were on it.

Ok guys time for another update. started the layout this time last year so i figured id try to really cover some stuff with this update. So to start i picked up some great stuff at the BIGE train show. Number one on the list was the legacy tuscan K-4 didnt really like the color at first but it grows on you.

Also picked up some ross switch's and gragraves ones as well. Grabbed the new Lionel Marines boxcar.

 

So time to get to the layout. So put in one of the ross switch's I picked up. 072-54 left hand which will lead to the brewery. I can fit the MTH one in the place but not sure if I want to try and kit bash one. Right now its just a siding thinking of adding another track but it will cut down on the size of the building.

 

Next to that i have the lift up part which once again is causing another issue. The 2nd level cuts right across it. The way I look at it is I have two ways I can go about it.

1. A drop in section to match up with the other side.

2. Use the small style but make it hinged just on the other side with a good counter weight or a stop point so you can then lift up the lower one.

 

Also added in a ross 072 Y leading into the yard this way I can get to the yard from either way on the main.

 

 

Started the supports for the 2nd level leading to the station. I can fit 3 tracks with no problem trying to fit four. Either each track coming in has a siding or one track has two. Not really sure what im going to do yet. Would also like to have it where I can switch it form the inner loop to the outer at this point. Still thinking of what to do for that open area behind the 2nd level. Was thinking of raising it up to the 2nd level. To hide the storage tank was thinking of make it the front of the station and a small city block.

 

 

 

Now to the center part of the layout. Still no more work on the main bridge, waiting on more wood for the 2nd level one. Once that is in the inner second loop will be running. still need to do the water at the bottom and add all the little extra stuff here and there.

The yard has been started nothing special yet. Have four sidings right now, I run manual switch's and 5 or more will be hard to reach. So I might get remote ones for the rest not sure yet..

Did the rocks for the ramp leading up the the 2nd level. Nothing to crazy still need to wash it and do the final high lights.

 

Did a short little video plan on doing one at the end of the weekend once more stuff gets done over the weekend.

I can see by the photos that I'm getting later by the second.  FINISH THE ROOM FIRST!!!!!!!!!!  It will be absolute heck to reach to put lighting over the layout once the layout is there.  You want lighting against your wall, perimeter lights, because you don't want shadows between people and the layout.  Put dimmer switches on these wall perimeter lights so that you may control the intensity for day and night. 

 

Lastly, a finished layout room makes a layout look 100% better and gives visitors and operators alike a more comfortable feel.  You do want them to stay.   

 

Two feet is way too low.  It will be hard to see, hard to reach or work under.  Easy back!

well not to much to show for this week. most of the work was done on the other side of the layout. Needed to change it up a bit.

then i got the second track bridge in and laid out the third for main station area.
