I just bought a B & O pacific steam engine. After purchasing I realized that it was only for DCC.
I run 3 rail DCS. Can a board be replaced to run DCS?
I thought all MTH engines had a switch to enable you to run either DCS or DCC.

This engine (tender) does not have a selector switch. It is only DCC.
i did not know that they made engines that were strictly DCC. It does have the 3 rail pick up rollers.
The switch was left out because it's only DCS unless you open it up and switch to DCC. MTH has been leaving the switch off as too many people were switching them to DCC and causing service calls.
Put it on the tracks, my guess it'll run with DCS. If it doesn't run, it's probably broken.
PS/3 is both DCS and DCC by default. It has rollers, it's DCS.
Just bought the engine. I tried to add mth engine with remote " looking for engine"
"out of RF range." Tried a different engine and the signal is fine.
OK, a few things...
In addition, Out of RF Range is an issue with the remote communicating with the TIU, not the TIU communicating with the locomotive.
I have this exact model, and run it on three rail track with DCS.
John,
Out of RF Range is an issue with the remote communicating with the TIU, not the TIU communicating with the locomotive.
Actually, it can be either.
In his case, since it only happens with this enigne, it might well be the engine, or where it sits on gthe layout.
This is a new engine from a dealer in California. It was the only one that I could locate so I definetly want to keep it. I have several PS2 and PS3 engines and this is the only one that I am having issues with. Possibly faulty from the factory. I will try it later on a different TIU.
It could be as simple as the DCC/DCS jumper, or some other simple issue. If it's a new engine from a dealer, it's under warranty. As long as you have a receipt, you can ship it off the MTH if we can't get you running.
One thing I might suggest, is to ensure that the drawbar is seated really well in the engine. I remember when I got my first ps3 steamer, I had trouble adding it, and sure enough, the drawbar was loose. Just a little suggestion.
The connector inside the locomotive for the drawbar is another trouble spot, I've seen several of those be loose in a new engine.
Look very close for this switch. It is very tiny, if it is there.
Thank you the draw bar was not seated properly. Works fine now
Great, love success stories.
