Will be making a special trip to visit Trainstock this year - gotta see it while it's still there. Flying into Newark in the morning on Friday 1/17 and leaving on Sunday morning 1/19. So, we'll have most of Friday and part of Saturday free. We will have a rental car, so asking for suggestions about other train-related things to do - other clubs, museums, etc. that are within a reasonable drive time of Newark.

There's the New York Society of Model Engineers, a scale club in Carlstadt, NJ. @silverlake, who was a regular contributor the Switcher Saturday is a member. He hasn't posted here since 2023 so it looks like he's gone totally to the dark side of "O": scale.
In addition to Coach Joe's suggestion there is the New York City Transit Museum. Best to not drive but to take a NJ Transit train from Newark to NYC.
Driving into NYC is now a small fortune with bridge or tunnel toll coupled with the $9.00 congestion toll into Manhattan. Take NJ Transit if you decide to travel there.
Our club, Ocean County Society of Model Railroaders meets on Friday nights. We are located in Lakewood ,NJ on the Jackson/Howell border. About a 45-60 minutes drive south of Newark.
