I'm finishing a 681. The sided screws I used are the short grooved one. However another 671 has long screws. Which ones should I be using. The service manual shows long ones

What are sided screws?
I believe that the 681 is like the 671 and only has 1 side rod and mine has nuts on studs so not sure where you are getting screws!

I typed correctly siderod but the computer changed it and I didn't catch it. Sorry
Bob you are correct I just looked at my 671 and they appeared to me to look like nuts but in fact are screws. My aplogizies.
For those, I'd check with folks like Henning's Trains or the The Train Tender, they have tons of that vintage part in stock.
I guess I would call them "miniature shouldered hex head screws." The real PRR steam turbine had roller-bearings on the crank pins, held in place by circular bolted caps recessed flush with the surface of the large circular boss at each end of the rods that surrounded and supported the roller bearing.
@Bob is cool! posted:I'm finishing a 681. The sided screws I used are the short grooved one. However another 671 has long screws. Which ones should I be using. The service manual shows long ones
I have a few versions of this locomotive, and depending on the year of manufacturer These screws are different from engine to engine. Also check to see the offset where they screw in. That’s the blind shank at the end some are a little longer some or a little shorter. I do not know why Lionel did this and I have the service documents for these engines and it doesn’t show the difference but it’s there use what was on the engine. You can’t go wrong.
