I really didn't know where to place this topic, but I thought the site managers might check here---with the number of members participating on this site the information on train related items is unlimited. If we could have a place for members to send in wiring instructions, parts lists etc. so that all you have to do is enter a car number or accessory and the information for that item would come up---I for one have asked for different parts and information and received great results from many members. I know that there is the search box, but I haven't found that to be very helpful when looking for parts, etc.     Greg

OGR management has a clear reason to be.  Lawsuits have been threatened by copyright holders over unlicensed use of their assets.  Most of us don't want OGR shut down because of a copyright violation.

We tread a fine line here.  On one hand there are many folks here who help solve very specific problems, which usually requires knowledge that comes from the copyrighted material at some point.  We often share this experience and are freely allowed to do so.  On rare occasions we may also share scanned tidbits from the material.

But putting a large repository of copyrighted material online, or even putting out more than we currently do, won't likely pass muster with copyright law.

I agree. The search engine used on OGR is okay, not great. So having a smaller subset to search on would help by producing fewer hits. However this place seems to be concerned about copyright issues, so it probably won’t happen.

Use Google search of a single site, it frequently works better than the site search.  Click on the link for more details.

This is fundamentally a good idea. A lot of us keep file folders of parts, parts suppliers, schematics and instruction sheets; and would be willing to share.

@Mellow Hudson Mike raises a valid point. The possible solution would be for someone ambitious to create a wiki, blog, or google-drive location outside of the ogaugerr domain to place the material or have URL pointers where the material can be located.

But who's to do it?

Nothing is so easy as the job you imagine someone else doing!
