Is this ok to just leave in an MTH engine that won't be ran for along time?

Being PS2 3V was in production in 2005, it's been in the engine for 20 years or so..............
Even if we work back from 2011 or so when PS3 came out, still makes that battery 14+ years old.
Might be time to consider a replacement.
You ask this question and meanwhile I'm fixing an engine for a customer where a similar battery pack leaked- and has destroyed the harness, the boards, and just made one heck of a mess.
Thanks I was asking for a friend that inherited it from his grand father and doesn't plan on running it or selling it.

All the more reason to remove an old battery and make that decision- BCR or not, and if choosing battery, leave the battery out and place a label on the tender no battery installed.
You already have the shell open.........
Mine have been not in use and sitting since 2012. This year, all fired up but one...I thought it was a bad speaker until GGG pointed out that there is a safety override installed by MTH. I ordered BCR for it, and also for the others. It runs great now, no sound issue. The others are acting ok for now, but it is only a matter of time.
Just an FYI. Greg
I removed all batteries from engines that had them as i didn't know when or if Theye'd get ran. Just wrote inside of box lid, battery removed.
I would remove the battery if it is not going to be used.
I do that to all engines stored and not using.
I also indicate same on a Post it note, placed in the box, and also noted on my Excel maintenance log.
I do the same when I replace a old battery with new or BCR.
