Chris,
I worked for NASA/Martin Marietta as a Senior PWE and we had 1st chance at a lot of the NASA Trains from the big companies. I believe we have about 25 Cars, Jim Sutters' wife Peggy has a great NASA Train collection also.
The MTH DCS P2 Switcher Engine, pulling lots of different NASA Rolling stock, Lionel, K-Line and MTH.

I like the MTH NASA items. Have a few locomotives and cars in my collection. I am looking forward to the NASA 5-Car Solid Rocket Motor Transport Set due to arrive in the summer of 2014.
Have you ever seen this one ?

Great video. 150 tons per segment on the SRB's is something. I swear I must have been living under a rock or something not to have seen all this NASA equipment.

Living under a Rock....LOL

This thread got me curious. I've been ordering pretty much every NASA item MTH put out so far (but I did not order the new SRB set as I have the original set, even though the original does not have the NASA logo on it).
I counted something like 41 different NASA items made by MTH (if you count Premier items that had 2 road numbers, add a few more).
Add 2 for the 2nd Engineering Car and the Flat with Camper from 2014 Volume 1. I didn't count (or order) the 2 flatcars that the catalog picture had NASA rockets on non-NASA flats - not sure if those were actually intentional or if they put a NASA rocket on there due to cut and paste from the old NASA Flat w/Rocket pic.
I'm real curious about the story with the camper on flat. I am wondering if there was some odd story that actually found a camper parked on a NASA flat car at some point in time, or if MTH is just seeing how willing the public is to buy anything that says NASA on it.

KC,
I have definitely seen the bayou NASA train pictures before, and I never knew they got out onto the Internet before you posted them, talk about a breach of NASA security. I will tell you this the men who work the NASA Railroad, are some really great people, and very knowledgeable about their jobs, everyone of them is a credit to their country and to the NASA Space Team, and to President Reagans Star Wars Program.
KC, I would love to have a new #3 NASA Switcher Engine to go with my NASA Train.
Jim Sutter,
Thanks for the song!
Here is a decent picture of the NASA Train with 11 cars, a load for sure for the MTH P2#1 Switcher.
At one point we had to bring in the Williams GG-1 to pull the NASA rolling stock,
the little Switcher was just under powered for the size of the train, especially with all the kids wanting to run her.

Yikes, …I wondered why I’ve been seeing Little Airplanes flying around my house…

Bill,
Thanks much, I can't be here as much as I like, the gun dog training keeps me busy beyond belief, I make it a big point to be here around Christmas to visit with all the members during the Christmas season, would not miss it for the world, great people
talking trains, man you can't beat that.
Bill I love that NASA Lionel Car, outstanding stuff!
