So, credit where credit is due, I bought a Woodland Scenics Davenport department store after seeing how fellow forumite Lee transformed his into a hotel (as detailed in his thread).  I thought that was a great idea... and all of the sudden a building that previously didn't appeal became a "must have."

I followed a similar apprach to Lee, borrowing several of his ideas, but made a couple of other tweaks along the way.  Most notably, I replaced the faux wall lamps above the signage with working light fixtures.  I also recycled the store display "alcoves" into small vignettes that could be placed in the upstairs windows and lighted using their original dimmable LEDs.

The first pic is of one the upstairs windows, with a guest keeping an eye on the neighborhood

I like the way those curtains came out...

I kept the adjacent store an accountant's office... and decided to detail that one as well

The hotel name is, of course, a National Lampoon reference...

I love it! This building makes a better hotel than department store, doesn't it? The lobby interior is fantastic!  The accountant's office with what you see through the window is inspired.  And using the display window boxes that came with it for the upstairs windows, equally great!  Love your curtains, too.

BTW - Chevy Chase would be proud!

Paul,

The "Hotel Griswold" sign is just printed on sticker paper and applied over the original "Davenport" sign.  I like to use powerpoint for making decals since it's readily available and easy to size drawings to the dimensions needed.

All,

Thank you for all the compliments - it is much appreciated!   I did think about removing the accountant and making it a bistro or bakery next door... but I plan to eventually work in the name of our tax guy on the "accountant" sign so I left it there.

Dewey, Cheetam & Howe?  Could be either accounting or law firm.
