It has been at least a couple of years since I took pictures of the refinery on the layout.  So....last Sunday morning while taking pictures of scenes, I clicked a few of the refinery.  One thing I regret are the display shelves behind it since they detract from the over all view...especially the tall flare towers, etc.  So...I apologize for the background messing things up a bit but I have included a few pics of the tallest towers of the refinery....  Hope you all enjoy and as always, thanks for taking the time to look and comment... BY THE WAY... if you double click on a picture, it will give you a greatly enlarged and more detailed view...

Thanks,

Alan

Alan! Please post a map of your layout! Then when you show these fantastic pictures you can say something like "you are in zone A7" or something like that or maybe one of those "you are here" indications like they have at shopping malls. Otherwise how will I ever find my way from the refinery to the restaurant or to the shipping docks.

Fantastic as usual BTW. Your street scenes are great but I'm a much bigger fan of your incredible structures.

Thanks Spence.  Most of the refinery I scratch built.  In the pictures you can see the exceptions...like the MTH tanks and loaders.  Also, I took parts from a G scale Piko plant and bashed them into what I needed, otherwise 95% of the refinery I made out of all kinds of materials....large Christmas ornaments, lamp shades, PVC pipe, spray cans, ink jet cartridge caps...you name it!!

Great job.

Thank you Art!  I hope you don't nap too long since I am looking forward to your layout progress updates!!

Thank you Scott...I appreciate you!  Seriously though..I think I had posted some time ago the layout plan.  I have never drawn it with a track plan software.  All I have is a VERY crude hand drawing I did years ago when I started building the framework.  You come visit and I will make sure you find your way around and I'll even pay for your meal at the restaurant which is nearby....!

Thank you John....actually, folks that really know where all of the pipes are supposed to go tell me that I have made a few mistakes...uh...a lot of mistakes!!!

Alan

Alan, I have no idea where all the piping is suppose to go, but it looks very believable to me! You've created a busy industrial look, I can almost smell the petroleum!  I always look forward to pictures of your layout.

The refinery would actually fit on one Ping Pong table if rearranged but it is a big model and currently spans about 3 by 9 feet.

Ray.

Thanks again Ray....I like your idea but I am thinking perhaps something like Lionel did on their operating smoke stack.  I have two of those on either side of the tallest burn off stack so perhaps I can rig it up with a smoke unit and a bright orange LED..??

Thank you again Brian!  I am with you as I am not sure where all the pipes really should be but I was just trying to convey the look and so hopefully I accomplished that goal...at least a good stab at it anyway...

Thank you my friend!  The two loading tracks come from opposite sides of the refinery and are connected to two different main lines...makes for the possibility of a long run of loading and unloading....
