newbie just FINALLY after 3 mo got my 8x8 4 loop system running , wired accesories and 6 switches to tech 4 mrc 600 transformer did great for 40 minutes but then showing overload until i disconnected lionel tower light then worked fine. Is this the crappy tower light shorting out or is that just too much for this transformer powering tiu with z1000 and have z500 as auxillary power i kinda thought tech 4 and z500 somewhat equal do i need another z1000 brick for additional accessoried? thanks for your help guys

remove the tower and test it separately. if it is shorted ti will trip the breaker. Or you can use and ohm meter to test. Which tower is it?

older lionel with 8 lights in 2 rows i think i might get another brick gonna add houses anyway, thanks dale
puts off alot of light i suspect it is pulling alot of amps
tech 4 mrc 600 transformer
These are only 50 watts.
Both the MTH and MRC transformers are 50 watt units. Your accessories are drawing more current than the transformers can supply. Chances are there is nothing wrong with the Lionel tower, just that when you hooked it up, the current needed for the tower and everything else hooked up to that transformer exceeded the capacity of the transformer.
You need more power for both your trains and your accessories.
Changing out the tower light bulbs for LED's will reduce your current requirements, as has been suggested.
