Folks, I may planning to purchase Lionel 691PCB104A signalsounds sound board to wire into a K-Line MP-15 diesel (I run conventional) as a gift to one of my sons.  Any idea of which size connectors should be soldered to my wires to attach to the board itself?

I am also looking for a recommendation on an 8 ohm speaker to run off the output.  I see some smaller ones that I may be able to fit on the shell versus below the frame by the battery box area.

I realize this weekend is the Lionel parts sale so good time to get this.

Again, just remember, the diagram posted above is for the backside of the PCB. So when plugging into the header, you have to flip that diagram to match. In fact, I just generally cheat, no connector, and solder to the spots on the back of the board. It's only 4 wires, 2 speaker, 2 for power, one pair of pins jumpered for max volume.

Are there different connections for steam vs. diesel?  I ordered two diesel boards from Lionel and hooked one up and got a steam whistle and bell.   I contacted Lionel and they sent me two new boards and I hooked one up today and got a STEAM whistle again!   Do these boards have any identifying numbers on them to tell steam from diesel? How frustrating!

Thanks for any help, Dale

Some of these old boards I don't believe Lionel knows what they have.  Some the identical looking older parts seem to be in one bin with no identification.

Case in point.

I ordered a bunch of the AD-20A boards.  There are three types, one for diesel flashing ditch lights, one for steam IR tender connections for couplers & backup light, and one mystery board that nobody seems to know what it does.  The three different software loads have three different colored dots on the uP chip, silver, red, and green.

Steam is silver, diesel is red, and green is a mystery chip.  I have a test rig, and I couldn't figure out any sane function for the ones with the green dots.

I ordered some of the steam ones, and I got mostly green mystery function boards and a couple of diesel boards.  I had to send them back twice and educate the order taker on what the colored dots mean.

I'd bet money and give you odds that information didn't survive past my replacement order and they're back to random shipments again!
