I have a couple spots on my layout where dead spots in back to back turnouts are just the right gap that sounds cut out in these Lionel sound equipped cars. I'd like to add something like a YLB or BCR (Or build my own.) to these cars so that the sounds doesn't drop out anymore. Does anyone know what I need to do to do so? Thanks.

Send GRJ an email. His product should work.
The RS Lite YLB will do what you need for sure in the station sounds diner. I put one in a VL reefer. I would assume the generator cars has a RS lite board but never opened mine up
Funny you should ask. It's a 9V alkaline battery replacement that has an integrated track power charger. Basically a 9V battery you never have to replace or worry about leaking. It plugs directly into the RailSounds Lite battery connector on the board.
YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement (RS-Lite)
Older modular RailSounds based products use the companion product that has the 9V battery clip.

Are the boards marked so I can look to see if they have a place to plug the YLB into?
This is the battery connection. Some conventional boards don't have this connector, they don't accept the battery. FWIW, that's contra-intuitive, because it's usually the conventional running that needs the sound continuity more than command!
The connections from Bruk's excellent document on the Legacy electronics, a must have for anyone working on this stuff.
