Planning an experiment this week. I would like to add some insulated control rails to FasTrack, but don't want to pull up the track.

Plan is to apply a layer of 1 mil self-adhesive Kapton insulating tape to the top of the rail, and top that with 1 mil self-adhesive copper shielding foil. Will stagger the edges, so I get two 1-mil bumps. Obviously, the current-carrying capacity of the copper foil will be very low, so I will need to do this at logic levels, but I figure just a re-triggerable monostable will suffice for now.

Anybody every try this? Is there a store-bought version of this already available? Have Stan or GRJ already done it with modules?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I don't know about a store-bought version but the idea pops up every so often.  For example,

Seems the perennial riddle is solder-ability of copper tape vs. appearance of aluminum tape.

Well, heck, I think I still have some "tin salts," we used that years ago to tin plate etched circuit boards. Only gives you a microscopic plated layer, but protects the copper from corrosion and looks silver. And, it is highly solderable. I am sure the same stuff is still available somewhere.
