I am hoping I can get some advice on how to add LED headlights to my Weaver E-8's.

(1) Would an MTH PS 3.0 E-8 headlight lens fit a Weaver E-8 and does the lens have a receptacle for the LED bulb?

(2) I would like to keep the existing bayonet bulb for a cab light.  How would I pick up power for the LED and would I need resistors or any other electronic components for the constant voltage power coming off the QSI board for the LED light?

(3) I would like to have a quick disconnect connection with enough wire if I need to take the shell off completely and advice how to secure and manage the wires out of site from the cab.

(4) If I would like to go further with number board and marker lights is there a MTH E-8 bracket that holds the LED lights in place for the number boards and or marker lights?

(5) I need a list of supplies and where to get them as cheap as possible.

Thanks, Chas

Before LED's I did a TMCC/EOB board upgrade to a set of Weaver E8.  I used two grain of wheat lamps in the existing headlight spot, there is a fair amount of space behind the headlight lens.  Then installed a couple of lamps, one left and one right to illuminate the number boards and add general lighting to the cab area.   I also did a small bench seat/cab area to confine the light to the Cab.  Bi-polar/Bi-directional two color LED marker lights were also added.

The upgrade was pretty intense.

I also added rear lights.

Existing lighting was paralleled off the motor, a variable DC related to the track speed of the unit.   Note the wiring.

You will be using leds where bulbs used to be? You most likely need resistors, which ones comes after diode selection.

Which diode (led), comes after you know how you power them, board or off of the motor ? (DC motors right? Fwd/N/Reverse? Directional lighting already? Cab light yet?) ..don't forget to check an led's beam focus angle too.

Which exact circuit board # is likely needed, a picture too?

Electrical components for a project like this are pretty cheap. Look a small bulk for how cheap and you might have an led parts box full real soon.
