I'm detailing a conventional K-Line S2 diesel. It has a cab mounted incandescent light bulb that provides the headlight and reverse headlight by lighting a clear "fiber-optic" rod that traverses the entire engine from headlight to rear headlight. I would like to install led lights to replace the "fiber-optic" rod. I plan on replacing the incandescent bulb with an LED bulb. I can pull power fro the leds from the wires to the bulb base. My local hobby shop has minitronics 3mm leds that come with resistors. I've read other topics that say I need a diode also. I would assume the resistors that come with the leds are the proper size but what size diode would I need. Is there a way to wire the leds so that i get directional lighting instead of both Leds being lit all the time?
Thank you all for any information or advice you may offer.
