Good afternoon everyone. Given the recent announcement of MTH closure next year I thought it would be prudent to add the Wi-Fi option to my layout. Let me give you the background on what I have done so far, followed by 2 questions.

1. I have purchased and received the Wi-Fi unit from MTH. It has not been taken out of the box at this time.

2. I spent 3 hours working with Apple support, split between 2 calls. I was unable to download the MTH app to control the trains through the Ipad/Wi-Fi combination. This was an Ipad issue and it has been resolved and now have the app on my Ipad. I have not opened the app beyond the home page.

3. I have two handheld units/TIU packages. The current Handheld/TIU is operating v4.1 of the software. A second unused handheld/TIU is operating v6.1 of the software. The second unit is a backup and has not been out of the box.

My two questions are as follows:

1. I understand there are 3 versions of the Wi-Fi app. I will call them basic, $5 and $25 versions. I assume the app that I downloaded is the basic version. How do I download the $25 version with all the features? On the app store there was only one option, so I am uncertain how to proceed to obtain the $25 version.

2. To use the Wi-Fi with the TIU running v4.1, the software needs to be updated, preferably to v6.1. Is there anyone in western New York (Rochester area) that offers this service? I know both handheld and TIU need to be updated, so I can still operate off the handheld if desired. I am willing to pay for this service, as I want to avoid the headaches from the risk of messing up if I do this myself.

I know MTH claims that this is the simplest way to operate a train, but with all the effort to add Wi-Fi I would question that claim.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Bill

To upgrade open the App and push "Run My Trains".  Once on the home screen with the big dial, push "More" at the bottom of the screen.  There will be a list including +Upgrade.  Push that and it should take you to a screen that says "Available Products".  A pop up "Please Note" may come up but close that and it then should list the upgrade options after it checks the App Store.

Definitely upgrade the TIU and remote first. It is very easy. I will be in the Rochester area in late July or Early August to visit my daughter and family. If you still need help I would gladly offer to help just let me know so I can bring my laptop and cables.

You will NOT be sorry doing the upgrade and using the WiFi app. The $25 version is the way to go and yo can run 99% of Legacy features also. Marty is correct on how to upgrade the app as it is done from inside the app itself.

remember even though it looks like the rails connect when looking down the track they do NOT! So throttle up to notch 8 and proceed!
