Hi everyone,
I'm struggling with my holiday layout, and could really use some advice. Can anyone help diagnose my predicament? Details are as follows:
The Layout: A simple 2 oval fastrack setup, 10 x 18 feet. 2 sidings. Power from a 275 watt postwar ZW, and essentially no auxiliary current draw except 4 command control switch lanterns on the sidings. I have a TMCC command base and remote with wiring in line as it should be. 4 heavy gauge feeder wires run to the layout at equal spacing.
The problem: Everything runs wonderfully without a hitch using one train in conventional mode straight from the ZW, and 3 sets of MTH passenger cars (15 lit cars) on the track. drawing current This goes for testing multiple locomotives one at a time. However, when running TMCC all goes wrong- even with one locomotive on the layout. The locomotives don't always respond to inputs or specific functions, and can be really hard to get up to any speed. I know the commands are going from remote to command base as the base lights up with inputs, but they don't seem to be making it to the track/locomotives.
Do I just not have enough power in the ZW, even for 1 locomotive? Or is something wrong with my command base?
The track is a year old and clean, and the roster of locos seems to all behave the same, except for a K line EP5 that has never seem to run properly in conventional or TMCC so I'm ignoring that for diagnotic purposes.
Thanks in advance for any help!
