I just got a replacement truck for my postwar alco. Looking at the wiring diagram i'm a little confused. The diagrams show one or two wires connected to the double wound field. My power truck has 3. The third one looks like it is just two wires soldered together. Should i cut this wire or just cover it with electrical tape(which I have done). Or is this wire necessary and where does it go?

Where do the yellow, blue and green wires go?

When a 2 position e-unit is used (or a manual switch), the Two wires twisted together go to one of the brush holders. A single wire goes to the terminal that is between the two. The last wire goes to the solder lug that is mounted by one of the brush plate screws. That solder lug must be insulated from the screw and the post.

But  those yellow, green and blue wires may be coming from a 3 position e-unit. If so, the wiring is different.
In that case, the two wires twisted together either go to a grounded lug. (You can use the solder lug if it is grounded), and one of the single wires goes to the tab between the brush holders. The second single wire is not used.

What do you have?
