This is Repro Rich Art set. I see no diner listed in any of the books. Was this just something Rich Art created to make a 4 car set or was there ever a dining car? I know the painted 4300 series cars had a diner, but have not seen a reference for the litho cars.

Correct.
AF did not make any litho diners in 1927 for that set.
The first diners came in the 1928 enamel (painted) two-tone blue set.
Neat idea though. Neat looking cars.

Should touch on Harry Henning - we have talked about producing some unique body styles for the AF and Ives cars, probably not the lithograph ones though. He has a bunch of parts for baggage cars and combines that were never completed. Matching colors on originals and Rich Art/MTH versions is a little tricky unless you go the auto paint store for a color matched enamel.
Really pretty cars. I have some Ives that need cleaned and painted. Want to get some AF cars.
