I recently purchased a digital 0-50A ammeter for AC power. I connected it as shown:

Without the ammeter, I measured between 2-3 amps on the Track/Train as measured with my Fluke clamp on meter. I attached the digital ammeter and the ammeter would jump to more than 10 amps as soon as I started moving the ZW handle. The light gauge 5VDC wires then melted. I tested again and confirmed with my Fluke clamp on that the ammeter was drawing high amps at just a few volts. If I disconnect the 5VDC supply but leave ammeter connected, everything works fine (about 2-3 amps measured on Fluke) - but of course no digital readout.

The instructions state:

These meters are non-isolated type.
The 5V working power supply and the input signal are common ground.
It is recommended to use an independent 5V power supply.
I am using an independent 5V power supply.  Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?  (I also asked the seller).
