Would this work with Hydrocal and an HO loco building a crossing?

I moved this from the real trains forum to this forum as I can't figure out how the topic would be posted in real trains...has nothing to do with that forum.

Well it sorta did as the video shown was the "real deal". However the question asked was on modeling this real life situation.
To the O.P. yes hydrocal or wet plaster embedded mesh should work. Just remember to clean the wheels right after.
I wouldn't use an actual locomotive to create that effect simply due to the debri potentially working its way up into the engines geartrain and motor housing.
Why not simply roll some old rolling stock or a set of wheels still attached to the truck and roll it back and forth until you get the desired effect?
By doing so you won't put at risk a good running locomotive and the clean up of the wheels will be so much simpler.

NOPE Mark, the question has to do with Scenery and is not discussing the train in the video or the work being done on the prototype, the question specifically is asking how to model/make a scene like the one in the video.
I was just being funny with the title...I thought. I wasn't planning on actually using plaster and a loco, but thought this was an interesting way to do a job with minimal engineering. If you looked close at the end of the video, I think you can see a bit of wheel slip pushing the asphalt down the rail and mounding it up. And yes, just a truck would work if the Hydrocal was thick enough not to run back against the rail. Nice to know moderation is so watchful, might explain why a couple of my other inquires on the forum have disappeared.
