Good sales strategy, Announce retirement and sales double. Frank Sinatra didn't retire that many times.
Excellent point Grampstrains. Kiss has had a farewell tour every year for the last 40 years.
Maybe this is the transition to a new part-time retiree-owned business? Release a few limited edition new products now and then to keep some cash coming in and stay busy?
Dale
It might be Mike's way of going out with a bang.
I wish he'd go out with a Premier diesel bang rather than RailKing.
I can recollect a Persian rug store in Houston that held going out of business sales for something like 8-10 years. 😏
That said; I don’t like Persian rugs but, I do like trains! Mike can keep’em coming! 👍
Curt
Yes I agree. Keep them coming!
It's starting to sound like MTH is pulling an RMT move.
I guess as YOGI would say,” it ain’t over til it’s over”.😀
If they can sell an 8 car set of RailKing plug-door box cars then they can produce a 7 car set of Grand Trunk Western 50' AIRSLIDE covered hoppers with all 7 numbers in the series.

sure does look like it...

6 road numbers of premier Anniversary ES44s were announced a few weeks ago.
Not to hijack the thread, but is MTH service answering the phone now? I could not get a hold of them, left a message, and nobody has returned my call.
Who said there wasn't an MTH 2021 Catalog, it's just a different kind of catalog that's all!

Maybe those RMT "warehouse finds" will work their way to MTH. lol !

Yogi was such a clutch hitter. LOL. Sure hope MTH is never over.

Sure has worked on me. Fear of loss (no more gorgeous relatively affordable Railking Proto 3 engines) sure motivated me to go on a recent bit of a buying spree. Wonder how many thousands of other hobbyists have done the same.
I love Mike. Did you guys catch today’s MTH release announcing his production of trains with themes having a personal interest to him? LOL! He's on a roll and he's out of the closet now. Hopefully, he keeps building for many years to come.

Wow, all of a sudden, I'm not so upset that MTH is going away.
Keep them coming Mike.
Mike is just testing the waters to see he should really retire or keep going. Hope he keeps bringing things back, would really hate to see MTH go for good.
I wonder if Mike is rethinking the full retirement plan. I wonder if in his mind the sale of the MD building and permanent relocation to FL might be a way to keep a slimmed down version of the business that may be lower cost, lower aggravation, and more fun. We shall see.
A. Wells.
Well said. I agree. Joe
That offering is in bad taste either way.

Or maybe he's advertising to any potential buyer, "see my MTH product line has products that are still very much in demand".

Real scale offerings are in the works. Not sure what that silly fantasy nonsense is all about?
I love Mike and the whole group, always have. What I need to say is, it would have been appropriate to finish the cars we were expecting to get to finish our sets. I need the HO and Railking #1 gauges Union Pacific cars to finish the George Bush funeral set. I just did get the HO casket car that was released, it is very nice. I know they were going to make that car in #1 gauge, they had a prototype at York I think in 2019. My orders for these cars were cancelled so I know we won't see more from MTH. Anyway, like Forest said that's all I got to say about that. Thanks, Dave
Sure gives people something to talk about . Obviously going out with a bang, not a whimper, to reverse TS Eliot's formulation.
SIRT- you are right. Modelers are still waiting for certain actual models ( from real railroads) to be produced. That’s where my valuable hobby $ will be directed. JohnA

My thoughts EXACTLY!
Mike can make whatever he wants as long as I get my Union Railroad SW1 that was announced...
We all have items that we wish MTH would make/remake. I'd love to get my hands on certain 64' Woodsided Passenger sets. These seem to sell out very quickly.
Remember how close we were to getting a McKeen motor car!

He wouldn't be making them if they weren't selling. Someone is buying them, it just ain't me.
Perhaps MTH would be more profitable with a smaller physical footprint. I think that the value of MTH as an ongoing entity would be enhanced if there was some clarity regarding what will be happening to it. I'm hesitant to buy engines without knowing what will happen to DCS. Cars - no problem.
The fact that both major train companies have offered fantasy themed engines tells me they certainly believe, much to my surprise, that there is a market for this product. I won't buy any. Its just not what i'm into on my layout. I also won't buy a pink train, a green alien train or any other fantasy theme. However, if people out there want that and are willing to pay a manufacturer for it, more power to them. I'm just glad that a manufacturer is producing product in this market and would never wish upon them a quickened demise because I don't like something they sold that some fellow hobbyist wanted. Hopefully, by making money with these themed items, they'll stay around long enough and get to the Long Island and MTA liveries i desire. If that's the case, I'm all in.

Never understoood not running the in demand passenger sets again with different car names and numbers, many were one and done. So much lost $ale$ dollars.
