Putting together a Fastrack version of the 1957 Lionel catalog Super-O layout, the two 5x9s as an L. Decided that, for once, the electrical and control stuff would be part of the plan rather than a messy afterthought.
I have no real love for Lionel buttons and controllers, especially the modern ones, but some are a lot of work to substitute. Decided on the scheme in the attached photo, built on a lowered section of the Mianne benchwork.
Fastrack controllers at left, masonite panel is pre-drilled for 4 more, just in case. Red buttons and switches are "track" stuff, blocks and uncouplers; blue controls are accessories. Buttons and switches are neatly wired to European style terminal blocks concealed by the green felt skirt, so I can make changes without going under the panel proper, but in case I must the panel is cabled long enough that it will stand straight up with the bottom facing me. Spare space on the right is for additional Lionel special controllers, such as the Transfer Table and Gantry Crane. The bottom shelf holds a computer power center that feeds the 1033 and a couple CW-80s for the accessories. I was going to trim off the brown felt and put a molding around, but the local fashion consultant likes the "tablecloth" look.
Nothing glorious, just another way to handle a toy train control panel.
