Now that some forum members have helped me with 50s era traffic light paint scheme, I got a more mechanical/technical question re MTH modern era lights. These are the ones with yellow light fixtures at top and a bent aluminum pole to project the lights over the street. After installing a few of them, I realized I had lights from a too modern era. But I got to thinking: could it be possible to cut off the angular part of the pole and reinstall the fixture on the straight up piece of pole? Then it could be painted green & voila', one has the older era look. One problem I see is that the light fixture is attached on its side to the angular part of the pole. Has anyone tried "thinking outside the box" on this?
As an aside, the light fixture on the MTH accessory is nearly twice the size of my "scale" 50s era lights (retailer quotes a 1:43 so as to be better matched with the many 1:43 model cars and trucks). Perhaps modern traffic lights are bigger than the old ones, eh?
