Looking to see if anybody here has one of the Fowler 4F locomotives from ACE Trains and can see if it can manage 042 curves? I know its rated for 4' diameter but I am curious how close it is or can it just manage 042. Thanks AD

hello,
maybe you should put your question on this forum?

I did Paul, so far nobody has or access to 042 track. The model was advertised for 24" radius or 48" diameter, but many times they will go a bit tighter if the track is well laid or minor modifications.
Hello AD,
I have an ACE Pannier which is an 0-6-0 with (I believe) the same or slightly longer wheel base than the 0-6-0 you are asking about. The Pannier does not negotiate an 042 curve. Unfortunately, I do not have anything in between 042 and 060 right now. I will in 2 to 4 weeks. Can let you know then.
Kind regards,
Chris
Chris, do you think the Pannier would do it if the middle drivers were blind instead of flanged? A Pannier was the plan B loco when it came to a brand new model. I do have someone that could turn the flanges off for me. Thanks
Oh boy... I wouldn’t want to be held responsible for that answer. I can tell you that all drivers on the Pannier are flanged and the entire wheel-base is fairly rigid (i.e. little articulation). O54 would probably be OK, but I’ve never successfully run it on anything less than O60. Sorry to not be of any more help.
Chris
You would have to turn both sides. It will derail or short on you regularly. You don’t want to do that.

I am not that duff to only turn one side George, LOL. My Bassett Lowke Mogul has a much longer wheel base and is ridged in the driver side to side slop, but its has no flanges on the middle drivers, so it just goes around my curves. No derailment issues once I cleaned up a rough rail edge at a track joint. I will probably just get another vintage BL engine like the 2p or Compound 4-4-0's that I know will go around my line.
