Let's see if anyone has pics - both real or model of rail served industries that can be modeled. Looking for some unique ideas.

I'm partial to large grain elevators and mills, which should fit the topic's request. I'm devoting 40' x 4' to what is called the Hiawatha Milling district in south Minneapolis. There were six distinct industries in its heyday. Today there only three still operating.

Not so small, bu I've always wanted to model the old Skippy Peanut butter Plant that was on High St. here in Portsmouth, VA:
You could model the 2 "Jars of Creamy and Crunchy", the loading dock just behind them, and the spur coming off the Norfolk & Portsmouth Belt Line RR.

Elliot, I like the PVC pipe for silos!
Bob, the PB factory is great too. Using two of the smaller jars (and depending on how much you like PB) after they are empty, just paint the inside a mixed color to represent the PB!
great ideas guys!
Baby Ruth Building has a rail loading platform in the rear with truck loading on the opposite side, the produce platform is accessible from 2 rails and the lumber yard is attached to a Lionel log loader. All are scratch built.

I am a grain elevator fanatic, but of the wooden small town ones of which there was an endless variety. I have too many, so the one small industry I would like to see, Menard's, etc. is a small meat packing plant.
Also try google earth and get great overhead views of industries.

Hi Rattler... I like your display of your Hood Milk factory... Hood milk was one of my grandfathers clients and he designed the cow that is on your milk bottles, in the early part of the 1900's, his design was used for the cap on top of the milk bottles. Enclosed is a picture of a Tin Plate milk car I refinished with a copy of one of my grandfathers original designs. A Hood's milk plant is in my future plans. If you ever get to Boston MA there is a giant milk bottle, like the ones on your lay out, in down town Boston.

Someone on here posted this photo of this Coca Cola plant a while back. I don't recall if it was scratchbuilt or store bought, but I really like it and it would make a great small industry:
There is an old Coca Cola plant in Norfolk that looks a lot like this.
