I have bashed a bunch of Woodland Scenics buildings which are similar.  Generally, anything glued to the sides of the building, even dumpsters and signs, has small pegs that fit and are glued into holes in the building side.  I think this is done so the people putting it together in the factories know just where to put each piece and can't relaly make mistakes.  Anyway, when you pry th pieces off to leave a smooth wall behind it, either the peg breaks off and stays in the hole, in which case you have a small round plastic area of white that you must paint the color of the wall to disguise, or you have a hole you must fill (I dab a bit of yellow glue as "gap filler" into it and let it dry) and then paint.  If you are good at matching colors and dabbing with the tip of a brush this works well, otherwise . . .

Is there any advantage in opening a hole in the bottom to see if you see any pegs stuck in from the signs?

Can you slip a paper behind the sign? Razor saws work in spots like that. You have to remove the doubler at the top so it is thin all across.

if it is glued all around the edges of the sign, then it is hard to remove. Dremels are your friend. I will assume you are not trying to save the sign. Slow going will pay off.

i see pictures of layouts all the time with the same buildings, so making it your own is to be admired.

good luck and let us know how it works out.

All of them are nice, and the two reasons I see to change them are.

  1. The look and name, etc., do not quite fit your concept of what you want on the layout.  Example: I loved the Woodland Scenics Morrison Door factory building, but I didn't want a door factory.  I wanted a Brewery, and with some work I got it.
  2. It's fun!
