Hi I’m fairly new to the forum. Today I tried to click on a post. I was given a message saying you do not have permission to view this. My question is are there private groups on this forum or is this a glitch in the software? Why would anyone post something private on a public forum? Very confused by this any help would be grateful. Also is there anywhere where I could view the rules of this forum? I cannot seem to find them anywhere. Thanks for any replies. Joe

Why not provide the link to the post, so we can see what you mean. Mark
There are no private groups but some topics require a digital subscription beyond the forum membership.

I’m not sure how to do that, but here is the message I received when trying to view a post. Thanks joe

Thank you. That must be it, I’m not a digital subscriber. I like to give the business to my local train store so I always grab OGR there , but now that I know this I will subscribe digitally also. Thanks again joe
I just became a Digital subscriber and have been very happy with it

Joe,
after you subscribe I believe there is an email you need to send to Rich Melvin to have the permissions turned on here. It's just a small piece that isn't auto-magic with the subscriptions. I'm also happy with my digital subscription.

Thank you, that will help. Joe
Its fun being a digital subscriber, because you can go back over the years and see what was going on and the changes that developed. Somebody gave me Model Railroaders from 1940 and I like to look at them every now and then. Mark
You can even go right back to the beginning! It's amazing how things have changed in the 50+ years since OGR started publishing.

Not any more. This used to be a manual task, but the process of adding the Digital Subscriber role here has been automated. Once you subscribe, the DS role will be added within a few minutes of completing your purchase.
I'm not a subscriber but I have never in some 15 years or so gotten that message. What is an example of a "need permission' thread?
thanks - walt

It was a post with a video.
JDtrain, you might as well learn to do something as simple as pasting a link into your message so we can see exactly what you’re talking about.
The web address at the top of the page you are viewing is called the URL. Put your cursor in the URL box and copy that address. Then simply paste that URL into your post.
For instance, here’s where to find the URL for this thread. Select copy or hit Control C on your keyboard.
Now simply paste that URL into your message. Here’s what it looks like in this reply.
https://ogrforum.com/...0#158111058857258810
That’s now an active link we all can use.

Thank you Jim. I’m really lost with basic keyboard and computer knowledge. It’s a little pathetic and it’s a reason I don’t join many threads. So I really do thank you for taking time to explain that to me. it will be very helpful. Joe
Now if the guy who always complains about bringing along the pictures when I respond to a post with pictures would tell me how to not do that all would be well.

When you "quote" a post that has pictures, before you type a response, simply delete each and every photo within that post prior to posting your reply.
