Just read the article - if I understand it correctly there will be no more base units other than the new base 3 and no more production of Legacy remotes (replaced by an app on a smart phone). Is this accurate?

Cab1L will still be produced. Everything else is correct. Lots of thread here on this subject.
As I mentioned in another topic, Lionel's main thrust in control system user interface appears to be smart device based app control.
