I want to power switches with old Right-of-Way Industries (Tortoise) switch machines through ASC2. Two questions.

According to the manual, I can power the ASC2 with 12-14 VCA from my ZWL. But it also requires a power source to the COMM terminal on the ASC2. Can I split the power line from the ZWL into both connections? Second question: I don’t remember needing DC for the switch machines 20+ years ago when they were last used, but OK, the manual says wire 1N4004 diodes into the line to the switch machine. I have no experience with diodes. Do you just leave the soldered diode wire exposed under the layout? Can I trim the wire on each side of the diode?

Thank you all.IMG_0016

There is one more wiring diagram associated with the turnouts that has DC power. The DC is used only to power a relay coil that flips polarity of the turnout frogs and powers switch stand position indicator LED’s. The layout is two rail Legacy.

The Tortoise switch machines have been working flawlessly for over 4 years wired as shown. The diodes provide DC.

Here is the add on for the other functions.
