Hello, I am pondering the possibility of using the Atlas Pratt Truss two rail bridge kit. I hope to be able to run something three rail across that bridge and "Cheat" and get it built anyway.

Previous attempts to sell bridge did not draw interest, Ebay also shows increasing numbers of these bridges between 120-180-

Why do Atlas call these two rail or three rail bridges? Is it because I have to use a Atlas track that comes with this bridge?

Right now I am on the fence. I might build it and try it anyway with three rail Realtrax or similar or open the box and use the parts as needed for various useful little things such as cranes and such.

What say you?

Why do Atlas call these two rail or three rail bridges? Yes, the bridges come complete with the track installed and it would be somewhat difficult to change it. Is it because I have to use a Atlas track that comes with this bridge?

The three rail bridge deck looks like this. The bottom is one piece all ready assembled.  Link to pictures of my Pratt Truss Bridge on my website.  Click on the thumbnail images to enlarge.

Why not call Atlas, explain the situation and ask if they would sell you the three rail deck or make a swap? It's worth a shot.

I tried that with no luck.  The person I asked reacted as if I had asked to swap carbomite for unobtanium

So I pulled the rails and laid 40" sections of 3-rail track on the timbers.  I also used the loose rails to make guard rails.

BTW, despite what Atlas says, the bridge is a Warren Truss, and its prototype is in Mengo, MO (another fact that Atlas can't seem to get straight).  Don't get me wrong:  I love the bridge!  It looks great and works marvelously.  Atlas (a company whose products I like) just can't seem to get its facts straight on this one.

Yeah...and if you look closely at the detail on the bridge,  it is missing the stiffening gussets on the outside of each bridge side.   Something that Atlas swore up and down that the real bridge did not have!    Despite this, it still is a decent looking bridge.  Too bad Atlas had not decided on the heavier Pittsburgh Warren type truss, like seen on the PRR, N&W, and C&O......  Just wishful thinking on my part though.......
