Atlas 3 rail switches and Tortoise

I am starting to lay the track and decided to use tortoise switch machines. I would some input on how you have connected the spring wire from the tortoise to the actual Atlas 3 rail turnout. Should I use the existing holes in the throwbar or drill one?

I find after removing the existing Atlas switch motor attaching the spring wire to either side of the throw bar using the existing hole works best for me. Be sure to make the diameter of the hole in the platform large enough to allow the points to move fully in each direction.
