Hi

Anyone hear anything more on these cars and the 53 foot containers?

I was wondering about the interest level out there...   I know I am very excited.  I plan on buying several sets (may six?) on the first order, depending on road names and numbers available for each car set.

Thanks

Don,

You &I seem to be the only 2 CSX modelers, correct? I can't find my list of contacts is why I ask.

Would you like 2 buy any CSX 4750s? They're new except for being run up & down a piece of track several times, but that's it. Well, might have accumulated a little dust but nothing visible. Am asking $50 each. If interested,pm me at my email address. I have 2 each of car #250812&250778. Have 5 more I bought in 3 rail that can be changed over to 2 rail easily.

Thank you,

Al Hummel

I'm looking forward to these stack cars and containers.

Hoping the weight is not too much, with a consist of 100+ the weight matters.

But I will be happy with 30, 40, 50++ of these detailed models.

Since a long line of stack cars are not all one type of model, I believe Atlas O should add new stack car models, perhaps the Masterline Thrall 53' Triple well cars--from the HO line.

Cheers to Atlas, great decision to produce them.

History may not necessarily be an accurate predictor of future performance.  HOWEVER, if I recall correctly, the Atlas-O CZ observation car was first "previewed" at York in October 2013... then formally announced in mid-January 2014.  Atlas-O reportedly began shipping the car in April 2015, and by May/June 2015 most dealers had shipped pre-orders to their customers.

So for these Maxi-Stack cars, we might expect to see the formal announcement in July 2015.  As for delivery dates... there are just too many variables to go there.  But I'd watch for delivery of the Atlas-O CZ baggage car as a more recent barometer...  originally previewed at York in October 2014, then formally announced in January 2015 with an ETA of 3Q2015.  That's nearly THREE quarters earlier than the CZ observation car... so it bears watching closely.  If Atlas-O hits that mark, that bodes well for their new delivery estimates.  If Atlas-O misses that mark, then we know the overseas manufacturing/delivery timelines remain challenging even on a good day.

Interesting observation, no question diesels and the CZ cars have been an ongoing MFG issue for Atlas. On the bright side in more recent years the Trinity cars and the Tman cars have been pretty much on schedule hopefully this bodes well for the Maxi stack cars and perhaps something else new in the coming July-Dec catalog. I have my doubts that Atlas will bring in the GE-8WC any time in the foreseeable future if at all its been over 5 years since that announcement.JMO

Can someone please tell me how they brought these new-tooling tank cars so quickly when the 8-40cw is still so badly delayed?

Has to be a marketing decision based on the fact that MTH has had there version out for several years now and more than one run I believe, this is a well detailed model better perhaps slightly in some areas of detail with the exception of MTHs tinplate handrail system than the Tman model Atlas has been showing at their booths for a number of years now, and MTH did sell-2 2 rail units.Atlas relaunched this project last year I believe in an effort to gauge market response[obiviously tepid] as a result they are probably looking for a window in the future where they can sellout a run, they can sit on the tooling until they feel market conditions are favorable.Bear in mind it takes several runs of these products to fully amortize the investment.JMO

Let's hope.

I recently noticed two other Master Series freight products are due for shipment in 3Q2015:  fish-belly hoppers and the coil gondolas, both of which are follow-on production runs from existing tooling -- not new tooling as the Maxi-Stack would be.

Again... just another good barometer to see how well Atlas-O is meeting published delivery dates.

As for the formal announcement of Maxi-Stack IV... I was just pointing out that 3-4 months after previewing them seems to be par for the course... Using two different CZ announcements as examples.
