Quick question for those with Atlas O-54 switches. SCARM shows the switch shorter than the actual switch. However, when looking at a photo on the Atlas site, there appears to be a 4.5" extension on the straight section that looks like it can be detached, can it? I'm trying to reconcile a photo of a design with what SCARM shows and the 4.5" extension appears to be the difference.

Dave, when I go to the product page, link here, and hover over the product image to zoom in, it looks like there is a definitely a break (with rail Joiners) between the divergent end of the switch and a short straight piece that looks to be about 4.5".
Early 054 switches had a 14 1/2 “ straight section. Later versions had a 10” straight section and included a 4 1/2” straight section.
Hi Dave,
@ctr's answer above is correct.
I asked Atlas about this years ago and they replied, but I've long forgotten the reason for the change. As I recall RR-Track had two different Atlas O-54 switches listed (like long & short or something), the reason for my asking Atlas about it.
Thanks guys, that’s what I thought. It appears that with the 4.5 attached they match the O-72 straight section. Either way I can design with or without the 4.5.
