Atlas O switch wiring

If you are not going to use the Atlas switch machine, I would recommend the DZ-1000 switch machine over the DZ-2500.  (Note: if you plan to control the machines via TMCC/Legacy then use the DZ-2500.)  The DZ-1000 is reliable and easy to setup non-derailing.

I agree with CapPilot. Also the DZ1000 can be operated manually. I don't think the DZ2500 can be operated manually. If that matters to you.

I use Atlas switches with the DZ1000 and have had great success. Note that the Atlas switch wiring jumpers are not the most robust design out there. I typically have wire drops on all three legs especially if I purchased and earlier model switch. A word of warning on the DZ1000. Put a small piece of cork roadbed under the throw. Otherwise, if you go through the switch when it is closed you may hear a twang sound. That will be the little piano wire spring flying off into parts unknown. If you lose it there is no extra in the package.

Thanks all, advice useful. The dz 1000 is what I will use. Scott. I have a couple of failed switches due to the jumpers. Can you send me a pic of how you correct this? Also does this help dead spots for engines c short pick up roller span? )This is in the dz 1000 instructions I think?) and don't worry I'm breaking things!

Will try to send a pic when I get home. Basically I solder 18 gauge wire to the Atlas rail joiners (6 common and 3 hot). That's a soldering operation even I can do. Then feed the wires through the table and connect to the grid. It's kind of a pain but the best way to insure no dead spots if the jumpers on the other side are poor. On span, I have lots of engines with only two rollers with a short span and have no trouble with my 036 and 054 switches.

Can someone explain to me how to wire up an Atlas O #6931 dwarf signal to work with a DZ1000 switch motor, possibly connecting up with the DZ1008 relay? I’m simply wanting it to light up green for the main line, red for diverging. Thank you all very much.

Hello Larry,

Is this how you wired your DZ1000s to Atlas dwarf signals? I am using dz2500s but I would think it would be the same. I understand the wiring EXCEPT for the BLUE 12VAC input.  Are the RED and BLUE 12VAC inputs from different transformers?
