Atlas O Troop Kitchen Car... no lighting

First flip the car over and check to see the pick up wires are secured to the truck. 

That I did and yes they are... a black and a red on each, when I move the truck they seem secure.

Do you have and know how to use a meter? I would first check at the trucks and then inside at the lighting switch for power. I would guess there's a wire off somewhere inside. So you have to decide to send it back, or move forward. Once your inside, you've probably voided any warranty.

 The way things are made today, I fix stuff myself to make it easier on the dealers who get stuck with defects between the customer and the importer.

I don’t have a meter.  I would of course prefer not to send anything back it is a huge pain.  But if it is even borderline complex I am not set up to deal with it.  I will ask the dealer their view on what I should do.  I am not too stressed about it, but it is always a little frustrating when things arrive not working.

Not to be that guy, but I've made enough stupid mistakes to offer this suggestion. Have you made sure the on off switch is set right? It could also be that its wiring is backwards.
