Auxiliary Power to TIU

.  I'm using the Radio shack version but this one  looks perfect .

The specs are fine. If the plug fits, it's a go.

Hello, I just bought a tiu, but now I need a power up. I found the power source posted above on amazon, but I was wondering if the plug will fit in the tiu aux power input. Also, I will not be using an aiu, so is this too much power for just a tiu power up? Thanks for any help.

The simplest no-brainer, get a Z500 brick and just plug it in.

I ultimately ended up getting a Z500 brick.  When looking into the adapter above, it matched all the specs and plug size to fit the TIU.  I found a brick on eBay that ended up being about the same price.

Yes, the Amazon source will fit as it has a 5.5mm/2.1mm (outer/inner) coaxial plug.  While it is capable of supplying 18V at 2 Amps which is 36 Watts (Watts = Volts x Amps), the TIU only draws what it needs (about 5 Watts).  So it is not "too much power".  Think of it like your house wall outlet.  It can supply upwards of 1000 Watts but works fine even if you plug in a 1 Watt night-light.

While the TIU manual suggests an AC source, you can also use a DC source - which are more widely available, economical and compact.

But if you already have a surplus Z-500 AC brick (50 Watts) you're good to go.  

If using an AC power source, since the ground posts of the TIU are connected internally to the ground of the aux. power input jack, does the AC aux. power have to be "in phase" with the tracks AC power that passes through the TIU?

The AC is rectified into DC right at the entry, so I don't believe phase will have anything to do with it.  It just powered the internal circuits.  As long as you don't ground one side of the AUX supply, I don't see phase as a concern.
