A very nice commercial indeed.
interesting...but the point is one becomes a farm owner an the other an enginer and at christmas they get together.. doesn't seem like they mended any bridges cant say I liked it 100% but still like trains...
It's not prototypical! EVERYONE KNOWS that CPRail didn't have those engines and paint scheme in 1985!
Great commercial though!

I liked the interior shot of the late 1950s car with the wrap-around windsheild!
there is a new GM commercial on TV now about building diesels that is well also done. Not the same as this CP commercial, but the prototype, colorful; BNSF shots and scenery are great and from the air make the trains look like our o gauge versions.

Anyway you want to slice it, this is a great commercial. Thanks for posting it.

uh... that's a GE commercial, NOT a GM commercial. Electro-motive is now a part of catipillar.
Loved it! And to think, I just got my Lionel Canadian Pacific Grain Train Set in the mail this morning :-)
I find this particular commercial to be the usual emotionally manipulative bs typical of so many teevee spots. Must be a good ad since so many folks are diggin' it, but it ain't my cup of meat.

It's great propaganda because it strikes a chord. I could patch a vid together with some of these ( http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/atsf/atsf0016rsa.jpg  and have you swooning like a kid again.
