I'm in the process of ballasting gargraves track . I want to use some operating accessories (Lionel's ice house, fork lift loading platform)but they attach to the under side of the track. Do you ballast around that track section ,or over it,or modify the accessory. I want to be able to service the accessory without tearing up everything.

Thanks in advance and have a Great Thanksgiving!!

My layout has a LOT of postwar accessories. One of my favorite goals is to try to blend them in so as to make them not look just "stuck in". This is often a challenge. I frequently embed the oversized bases in pink foam in order to bring them to grade and then landscape over them. I certainly am not afraid to ballast (although I often just leave it loose--I try never to modify or damage the accessories). Another trick is to lay down sheets of construction paper over the buried parts of the accessories and attach the landscaping material to it. I will worry about repairs when I get there.
