Started ballast last week using Brennans ballast. (gray for mainline and dark for yards). My roadbed is Homosote with 45 degree side slopes. I found the best way tMainline ballast progress March 30o get the ballast to adhere to these side slopes was to "paint" the side slopes with the white glue and sprinkle the ballast on. The ties are ballasted in the conventional manner with wet water and diluted white glue. No hurry to complete this work as I have a good amount of track to ballast, This is conventional Lionel O gage with supplemental wooden ties.

Victor, I like the idea of the Homasote to raise the track level. You can't tell on mine, but I had 1/2-inch foam on the mains and left the sidings level. Sadly, that layout is gone as I downsized and built the new one with pre - ballasted track.
